The Crusades were a series of religious wars sanctioned by the Latin Church in the medieval period.  military expeditions beginning in the late 11th century that were organized by western European Christians in response to centuries of Muslim wars of expansion. Their objectives were to check the spread of Islam to retake control of the Holy Land in the eastern Mediterranean to conquer pagan areas, and to recapture formerly Christian territories; they were seen by many of their participants as a means of redemption and expiation for sins. Between 1095, when the First Crusade was launched, and 1291, when the Latin Christians were finally expelled from their kingdom in Syria. The crusades were a series of holy wars called by popes with the promise of indulgences for those who fought in them and directed against external and internal enemies of Christendom for the recovery of Christian property or in defense of the Church or Christian people.

If someone decided  to join the Third, the people wanted their sins to be forgiven, to go to heaven or to take back goods from the Holy Lands or because they had committed a crime and were forced by the church to go on a Crusade. And some people just went on Crusades for fun. Taking back Jerusalem was the main reason why Crusades occurred. The stated goal of the Crusades was to recapture the Holy Land from Muslim forces, but there were also many unstated goals which European lords and clergy strove to achieve. Originally, the pope had called for a crusade to capture important Christian holy sites, such as Jerusalem, from the forces of Muslim rulers.

Tens of thousands of people (both soldiers and civilians) were killed in the conquest of Jerusalem. The Crusaders themselves suffered historians estimate that only one in 20 survived to even reach the Holy Land. It is estimated that 1.7 million people died in total.

In my opinion I think the Crusades was unreasonable and not needed. I think they should have made peace and unity. They shouldn't be fighting for unknown reasons
